SSC Receives Sandy Springs Society Grant

Jun 19, 2024 | News

SSC was awarded a $5,000 grant from The Sandy Springs Society in June 2024 to further the mission of creating, conserving and connecting parks in Sandy Springs. The grant will support our continued efforts to restore and enhance the Sandy Springs Library Reading Garden.

In recent years the Sandy Springs Society has given the Conservancy $18,500 in grants since 2020, of which the last few were focused on renovating the Library Reading Garden. While recent road work has disturbed some of the garden, the Conservancy is working with the city and library officials on a plan for repairs. Grant funds will go toward improvements that may include sculpture installation and renovations of the two town turtles on site.

In 2023 the Conservancy held several library garden clean up days in 2023 with volunteer groups from Morgan Stanley, Bennett Thrasher and the SSC board of directors. Grant funds provided for materials used such as mulch. Other work completed included cleaning and repainting peace pole, clearing the vines off the pergola, and transplanting perennials donated from the nearby Spruil property. The Sandy Springs Conservancy is working on renovation efforts in conjunction with The Sandy Springs Garden Club, Inc.,
